Happy New Year Celebrations around the world:

As the entire world puts on its dancing shoes and gears up to welcome the new year, we take a look at how New Year 2011 would be celebrated in different parts of the world.

The year 2010 was dubbed as a rather unlucky year by some, considering the numerous debacles the year witnessed. So people are not just happy bidding adieu to 2010, but also, they are whole lot inquisitive about welcoming the New Year 2011.

This New Year's Eve is going to be all the more special, as it will be a blue moon night. That is to say, it would be the month’s second full moon.

New Zealand: Being in the South Pacific, New Zealand was one of the first countries of the world to ring in the New Year 2011 with fireworks and enthusiasm.

Australia: Sydney’s New Year 2011 celebrations, an event most anticipated by not just Australians but people around the world, had a massive display of fireworks near the harbor bridge that went on for about 12 minutes. A record number of 1.5 million people turned up to witness the celebration!

Japan: Like every year, the Japanese will welcome the New Year 2011 by ringing bells in all the temples across Tokyo, when the clock strikes 12.

France: Paris, the fashion capital of the world, will witness a stupendous, well illuminated display at the Eiffel Tower.

England: Though it’s going to be a chilly winter evening, London’s New Year 2011 celebrations, slated to take place around the London eye, will attract a number of visitors for its fireworks display.

USA: The famous New Year’s Eve ball will descend at midnight at New York's Times Square before an estimated number of one million people. What’s more? There will be Dick Clark and Ryan Sea-crest to host the spectacular New Year’s Rockin' Eve special show. Also, there would be a live performance by Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony to delight people.

Germany:Nuejahr or New Year in Germany is celebrated on January 1 as per the Gregorian Calendar. People bid farewell to the old year and welcome the New Year in a rocking manner. They eat, drink, dance, play games, exchange wishes and even make resolutions to bring in the New Year.

Greece:The feelings of joy and merriment are associated with the festival of New Year. The occasion of New Year is celebrated all over the world. Greece that is officially known, as the Hellenic Republic is a country in South Eastern Europe. New Year's Eve in Greece is with great pomp and vigor.There are many customs and traditions that are associated with the New Year's Eve in Greece. It is a tradition of the people of Greece to accumulate in the town's plaza or in the town's center for last minute shopping for the occasion of New Year on the eve of New Year. On the roads of Greece, the young citizens of Greece produce a maniacal scene by announcing a bloodless war on each other and they use as their weapons plastic clubs, giant plastic hammers, foam spray and whistles. Another most important custom associated with New Years Eve in Greece is the cutting of the Vassilopitta (the New Year cake).As the New Year rolls in the father starts to cut the cake in a ceremony. The first piece of cake is offenavy to Christ, the second piece is for the house, the third piece is for the most senior member of the household and then it is distributed among all the family members and it is believed that the person who gets the gold coin that is hid inside the cake, good luck would stay with him/her throughout the coming year.Another custom that is linked to the New Year's Eve in Greece is the Pothariko, that is the people of Greece on New Year's Eve ask their best friends, or relatives, who they think would bring luck to them to be the first person to enter their house on New Year's Eve. Most of the citizens of Greece people prefer a child to an adult regarding this custom as children are considenavy to be innocent and pure.Most of the inhabitants of Greece celebrate New Year's Eve by being part of the festivities that takes place in the bars and the night clubs and the display of fireworks that takes place in the central squares throughout the cities of Greece are an integral part of the New Years Eve celebrations in Greece.
